Design Challenge: Colors I’ve Never Used Before

March 7, 2026March 28, 2026 Siri0Tagged Cross stitch

Every once in a while I like to do a fun design challenge to keep things creative and fresh. Whether that’s limiting the number of colors I can use, randomly generating a palette, working with a new brand of thread, or designing with a particular finish in mind. This month I wanted to try designing […]

3D Cross Stitch Spotlight – Various Ways to Make Dimensional Stitches

February 7, 2026March 28, 2026 Siri0Tagged Cross stitch, Resource

Bit of a different article this month โ€” rather than a tutorial I wanted to do a bit of a spotlight of all the different ways people have come up with to make 3D cross stitch. Thereโ€™s a lot of ways to tackle the three-dimensional shape, and hopefully these examples will give you some inspiration. […]

How To French Knot; Or What To Try Instead

January 10, 2026January 22, 2026 Siri0Tagged Cross stitch, Tutorial

Okay, so I technically already have a french knot tutorial as part of my Advanced and Specialty Stitches list. But I wanted to go a bit more in depth and offer multiple sources and tutorials, as well as additional ways to substitute them. So here we are, going a little more in-depth. With links to […]

Cross Stitch Challenges: Ways to Gamify Your Stitching!

December 13, 2025January 11, 2026 Siri0Tagged Cross stitch, Resource

It’s December at the time of publishing this, and that means lots of you are either scrambling to finish up holiday stitches or already planning out your whole next year. Thankfully I’m in the latter camp. Instead, I’m planning next year’s cross stitch challenge. December is when I recap what I actually got done this […]

Custom Cording From Embroidery Thread

November 15, 2025December 28, 2025 Siri0Tagged Cross stitch, Resource, Tutorial

I’ve been wanting to make custom cording for a long time and just have never set aside the time to do so. Like with many of my explorations, making an article/tutorial on how to do it is a great incentive for me to make it finally happen. And now you have a reason to try […]

Cross Stitch Handmade Gift Ideas

October 11, 2025October 23, 2025 Siri0Tagged Cross stitch, Resource

A few years ago I put together a list of gift ideas for your favorite cross stitcher (even if that’s yourself!). But I’ve always wanted to make the opposite list — ideas stitchers can make as a handmade gift for others. As it turns out, that’s more difficult than it sounds. It really depends on […]

Fraying Fabric – Various Ways to Deal With It

September 13, 2025October 5, 2025 Siri0Tagged Fabric, Resource

How annoying is fraying fabric for you? Some fabrics definitely fray more than others, and some people don’t mind fraying while others can’t stand it! What do I mean by fraying? When the edge of your fabric starts to unravel or come apart while you’re trying to work with it! The good news is there’s […]

Hoop Finish Your Cross Stitch

August 16, 2025August 29, 2025 Siri0Tagged Cross stitch, Finish, Tutorial

I’ve been posting monthly tutorials on this site for SIX YEARS now. And before that on old blogs or via videos. So how is it I’ve never done an article on the hoop finish? It’s arguably the most iconic cross stitch finish and one of the easiest to do. But the truth is, I don’t […]

A look at my UFO pile. Some of these being 20+ yea A look at my UFO pile. Some of these being 20+ years old at this point. ๐Ÿ™ˆ Because let's be real, we all abandon projects from time to time and you should never feel bad about it. And we should really normalize it more.

If you're new to the craft and don't have any old WIPs and still manage to finish everything you start -- great! But it may happen one day and it's okay. Let it happen. Life's to short to keep working on a project that you're not feeling.

Maybe you'll pick it back up one day. Maybe you won't. Either way there's no harm in letting them sit unfinished.

A small color palette for April -- But hopefully i A small color palette for April -- But hopefully it says spring well enough. ;) April's cross stitch pattern definitely has a floral theme, but probably not the flowers you're thinking of. ;)

Definitely excited for warmer weather and getting the garden going this year though.

My garden kinda flopped last year, and we're still mostly focusing on getting the inside of the house the way we want it, but I still want to put at least a bit of work into our yard. ๐Ÿค”

Do you have any fun garden plans this year?

This months' YT video is a behind the scenes of ma This months' YT video is a behind the scenes of making this months article -- in which I challenged myself to design a cross stitch pattern using all the DMC thread colors I've NEVER designed with!

Over 10 years of pattern design I've used a ton of colors, some more than others. So I put together a spreadsheet of all the colors my patterns call for and singled out those that are never mentioned. ๐Ÿ‘€

This reel shows the time lapse of the design but if you'd like more commentary on my decisions and so forth, please check out the full video! ๐Ÿฅฐ
Or check out the article on my website if you'd like to see my full spreadsheet of colors!
I keep thinking about what else I could make a fab I keep thinking about what else I could make a fabric tray out of that would make sense. A few years ago I made this cross stitched koi pond tray using this gorgeous BeStitchMe 'Princess' aida which is just perfect for a cute lil pond. It's been sitting on my desk every since holding materials for whatever my current project is.

The other idea I had was like archaeological dig -- Or rather a paleontology excavation pit with some fossils peeking out of a brownish fabric. ๐Ÿค” Idk. I think it'd be cute.

What else would fit for this kind of finish?

I feel like I haven't had a ton of time to put into this lil personal project, but thankfully blackwork works up pretty fast so when I do spend some time on it, it feels like a lot gets done.
I thiiiink we're at least half way now? Idk, I'm terrible about quantifying that kinda thing. Where should I move the Qsnap to next? Left? Or down? ๐Ÿค”
