Speed Test: How to Measure Your Average Cross Stitch Rate and Why

September 25, 2020October 16, 2023 Siri0Tagged Cross stitch, Resource

This is probably going to be a long post, so let’s start this off by immediately saying this is NOT about whether you are fast or slow. None of that matters. You should not compare yourself to others and/or get upset at yourself for stitching slower due to injury, mental health, multitasking, etc. That’s not […]

ORTs – What Do You DO With Your Leftover Cross Stitch Thread?

September 4, 2020April 17, 2026 Siri0Tagged Cross stitch, Organization, Resource

If you’ve been around the cross stitch or embroidery community for a while, you’ve probably come across the term ORT. But what are ORTs and why do people keep them around? According to the dictionary an ort is “a scrap or remainder of food from a meal.” ; so in stitching terms it’s the scrap […]

If you have a Cone of Doom, how do you store it? 🤔 If you have a Cone of Doom, how do you store it? 🤔 I keep it on one of those spinny yarn holders on the top of this shelf right above my desk where I do most of my stitching. So any time I need some 310 I just reach right over my monitor and pull down a strand of whatever length I want 👀

I used to keep it ON my desk right behind said monitor but it... was collecting quite a bit of cat hair down there, so I moved it up higher.

Where do you keep yours?

It's time for another 'what the heck do I DO with It's time for another 'what the heck do I DO with this now?' post. Tiny Hardanger edition. I made this to try out Hardanger for the first time, and I of course made an article for my website for it which you can reference for my thoughts on trying out this style of embroidery as someone who primarily cross stitches. There's even a video on my Youtube of the process! But... now what?

It's like an inch and a half square, so there's not too many options. But hey, there's plenty of room around it for basically any finish I can think of at least. But what to do with it? Small ornament? Pin cushion? Scissor Fob?

And what color to put behind it so those holes really stand out? 🤔

Swipe to peek inside my project bag --> This month Swipe to peek inside my project bag -->
This month's article had be researching all types of project bags and the kinds of things people store their cross stitch projects in. I was really intrigued by this style of folio bag with little pockets for bobbins and decided to make my own!

I pulled this unfinished rainbow EPP piece from my UFO pile. It was a free pattern by @iamlunasol but doesn't seem to be on their site anymore. Or any quilting stuff really. 🤔 But it was there when I started it back in 2019, I swear. 😂 Their current art is pretty cool too though, so check them out anyway!

Anyway, I finally stitched the last few squares on and then applique'd it to some glittery black fabric I quilted for the cover of this folio. The pattern for the folio itself is from @what_saysie_makes , who... doesn't seem to be active anymore, but the pattern is still up on Etsy! And it was real easy to follow. Definitely recommend 🥰

So now I have a very fun rainbow cross stitch portfolio to keep a WIP on the couch for me to work on in the evenings. 👀 Or, yknow, if I ever leave the house for some reason.

This is only one style of project bag though, so be sure to check out the latest article on my website for links and examples of allll sorts of different ways to store your WIPs!
